Massive NETCET release and tagging event in Savudrija (Croatia)

On 24th October 2014 Croatian and Slovenian partners (UPR, SINP and MEC) organised a release event for 4 turtles. The event started at 12 pm with a brief introduction on the importance of the NETCET project for the conservation of sea turtles and cetaceans and particularly about the satellite tagging and the importance of tracking the animals in the Northern Adriatic.

After interviews with media (radio, TV, newspapers) and setting of the satellite transmitter on each turtle, the release started. Members from each partner’s institution held a turtle in shallow water while UPR checked the satellite transmitter. On 12:30 all turtles were released. The special guests of this event were the Vice Major of the city of Umag, local fishermen, a local school and students from Sheffield University.
