The first NETCET meeting with Veneto fishermen (Chioggia, Italy)

The first NETCET meeting with Veneto fishermen (Chioggia, Italy)

The first NETCET meeting with Veneto fishermen was successfully held in Chioggia (Italy) on Saturday 9th November, thanks to the work of  WWF.

The event, opened by the Deputy Mayor for the Environment Ms Silvia Vianello, aimed to increase the awareness of the presence and the conservation needs of cetaceans and sea turtles in the Adriatic See. In particular, the objective was to provide basic information on Sea Turtles and the procedures to reduce post-release mortality of these animals. For this reason Veterinary Alessandro Bellese participated into the event explaining some first aid actions and Doctor Nicola Novarini, expert of the Museum of Natural History in Venice, presented the biology of  Sea Turtles.

Forty fishermen participated to the event amongst which the presidents of the more important cooperative company of fishermen in Chioggia, the presidents of the Consortium Fishing Boats and AGCI together with some representatives of the  Chioggia Port’s Capitan Office.

At the end of the meeting, participants were given information material (posters, t-shirts and stickers produced within the NETCET project) and invited to participate to the next three meetings which will take place in the next months as pat of the training program of NETCET.
