The 2nd NETCET course on handling, recovering, releasing caught/stranded CT&ST - Zadar (CRO)

On the 25th of October 2013, the 2nd NETCET Course on handling, recovering, releasing and recording accidentally caught/stranded cetaceans and sea turtles

was successfully held in Zadar (Croatia).

The course, organized and hosted by the State Institute for Nature Protection (SINP) was held in Zadar. Participants were representatives from marine police, ports authorities, coast guard, NGOs, marine protected areas, county’s public institutions for nature conservation, Nature Protection Inspectors, City of Zadar and project partners from Montenegro. The lecturers presented the biology and threats of Sea Turtles in the Adriatic Sea and national Protocol of reporting and acting in case of encountering dead, sick or injured strictly protected marine animals, with practical lecture on handling techniques for stranded or injured Sea Turtles. The Blue World Institute of Marine Research and Conservation presented biology and threats of Cetaceans in the Adriatic Sea.

Guidelines for the first aid to Sea Turtles and Cetaceans were prepared by the University of Padua, while SINP translated them and made some changes related to rules of the national Protocol.
