Description of the partner organisation
Cetacea Foudation onlus, is a non-profit organization, founded in 1988 in Riccione (RN) with a commitment to protect the marine ecosystem, especially the Adriatic sea, through activities of education and conservation. It uses the valuable contribution of biologists, veterinarians, scientists and volunteers. It is active in the rescue of animals in need, especially sea turtles and cetaceans. Since 1994, the Foundation operates a Rescue Centre for Marine Turtles of the Adriatic, one of the most important and active in Italy. The Centre is recognized as a regional center of Care and Rehabilitation for the Emilia Romagna and Marche regions, as indicated by the Ministry of Environment National Action Plan. The Cetacea Foundation conducts didactic and educational activities for students and collaborates with public institutions and associations in projects concerning education for sustainable living, respect and preservation of the marine environment. Moreover, in association with institutes and universities, the Cetacea Foundation has carried out research mainly on large marine vertebrates (cetaceans, turtles and sharks).
Description of the activities
Cetacea Foundation rescue centre for sea turtles and cetaceans is one of the most important centres in Adriatic sea. CF’s knowledge and experience is essential to the improvement and setting up of NETCET rescue centres in order to obtain a network of high standard centres. Therefore, CF is workpackage leader (WP5) regarding the establishment rescue centres along the Adriatic and actively involved in training. In addition, CF will set up activities related to networking among partners (forum, workshop, data exchange) and the compilation of a common shared database on stranded specimens for public display of the results of project and for a better scientific understanding of the population dynamics.
